Art illuminates.
Art heals.

Bluer Sky Advocates exists to support creative work of all kinds that

the experiences of living with past trauma, and healing from trauma.

We recognize ourselves in stories, dance, visual art, film, and every form of human expression, and we can also see our potential.

The work that Bluer Sky Advocates chooses to showcase and support in particular shines a light on the most effective ways for all people to move through and past the harms that have been done to us toward love and connection with others and with ourselves.

Terms

Bluer Sky Advocates provides direct cash grants to creators of all types, grants earmarked for supplies or equipment, and support for events and presentations such as readings or workshops for theatrical works. Support for the presentation of work may include publishing books, sponsoring or co-sponsoring displays of visual art, and co-producing theatrical works or other performances.

Promotional support will include sharing information about new works on social media and on the organization’s website, and defraying the costs of marketing and promotion, including hiring expert consultants in these areas if necessary and agreed upon by the board of directors. Promotion is both essential in a world where there is an abundance of creative work, and an activity which requires a different skill set and is distinct from the work of creating art of any kind.

Creators will be required to acknowledge the support of Bluer Sky Advocates, for example, in the indicia of a published work, in the liner notes of an album, in the program of a live performance, in the credits of a film, or in the description of a video posted on a platform such as Vimeo or YouTube. Bluer Sky will have the right to premiere work supported by the organization, for example as a live performance or in an exclusive stream (for a limited time) on the organization’s website. Non-premiere presentations of work supported by the organization can be made by Bluer Sky with the agreement of creators.

Bluer Sky will have the right to excerpt works created with the support of the organization on our website, and display the name and likeness of supported artists and other information about the works.

Creators supported by Bluer Sky will retain copyright of all their materials.

Selection criteria for grantees will include the technical and storytelling ability of the applicant as seen in their portfolio, and the extent to which their work or proposed work depicts and conveys trauma healing, symbolically or in narrative.
